I am having trouble getting into several repeaters around town using my 5w HT.
I have seen ads for 2m amps (ones that take 1-5 watts in and give 50-90 watts
out). I was wondering if anyone had experience with these and could suggest
some pros and cons of going with this method.
thanks for the help!

I have tried numerous external speakers and have only had success
using the outboard equalizer mentioned in my previous post.
For sideband the IF shift is great, but for AM it won't do anything,
of course...

Hope you like the Standard C558A. I have one and find it is
really a nice rig. The construction is better than many of the other
dual banders I've tried and the receive sensitivity is really great.

I am considering using Motorola Maxar 50's or Maxar 80's on the
amateur band and/or GMRS. Does anyone have any experience with these radios?
Any warnings, comments or suggestions?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a wideband transmit mod for the Alinco
DR-592? I need to be able to transmit in the 420-430 MHz range.
Thanks,
Rory Burke

I'm about to receive an Alinco DR592T dualband mobile as a birthday present.
Can anyone give me any information regarding the operating characteristics
of this rig? I guess what I'd like to know is if it's decent radio for a
beginner or just a piece of junk I should avoid.

Those mods are supposed to be the ones for a late model TH78
(which yours obviously is.) Makes me wonder if they have done
something else to block 800MHZ.
Hope you get to the bottom of it. 73 Dave AA5NU

I have bypassed the 6KHz AM filter, and had no improvement. All modes go
thru a Low Pass Filter in the audio section before any additional amplifica-
tion. This amp has it's frequency rolled off at 3KHz (down 3db). Next time
I have the cover off, I'm going to move it out to 4KHz. The AM has the same
highs as SSB, but it has so many lows that the treble to bass balance is
way off. Makes it sound like all bass.
